Luce
means light in Italian, so is it any wonder that the Park Slope restaurant
by that name sports a colbolt-blue neon sign that lights up Sixth
Avenue like a beacon?
Taking a gamble on an avenue devoid of restaurants, Kristen Hallett
and Peter Sclafani (he opened L'Udo in NoHo) have transformed a grimy
bodega into a sweet osteria for casual Italian fare. The welcome
is let-me-bake-you-a-pie neighborly. (Theres even a "bambini"
section on the menu for pint sized visitors.) Sclafani and Hallett
live in Manhattan. It's a testament to Brooklyn's new culinary cachet
that the couple crossed the river for thier first joint venture.
