Luce
Sixth Sense: Owners Peter Sclafani, Kristen Hallett and chef Andrew Blackmore-Dobbyn at Luce in Park Slope.
Is Brooklyn's Sixth Avenue the new Fifth Avenue? Well, not quite yet, but Park Slope's newest restaurant, Luce, may do for that lonely, pappardelle-deprived stretch what pioneering Cucina did for the Slope's now-burgeoning boulevard twelve years ago. Owners Kristen Hallett and Peter Sclafani, who opened L'Udo in NoHo seven years ago, have beautifully restored a grimy bodega, excavating its original tin walls and ceiling, buffing its tile floor, and installing a stylish glass-and-oxidized-tin façade. In the kitchen, chef Andrew Blackmore-Dobbyn, formerly chef de cuisine at Savoy, has come up with a casual but intriguing Italian menu emphasizing fresh local ingredients and including Sicilian seafood couscous, guinea hen with pomegranate sauce and ricotta gnocchi, and even a bravely revisionist take on a borough favorite, spaghetti and meatballs -- tiny lamb ones, that is.

Limitato... Ma BELLA!!!
We finally went. The place has some of the nicest style and non-pretention we've experianced in a long while. The staff was smart, crisp and attentive. The food was wonderful, I had the rib eye and my girfriend had the chicken breast (awsome lemon flavor).I'll sugguest this place to all who ask where to get some good food at a cool place.

Pleasantly Surprised
I live nearby and waited with curiousity for Luce to finally open. When it did, I was pleasantly surpirsed. The food is robust, fresh and elegantly simple. The menu is not over bearing or confusing. I spoke with the waiter and chef and found out their ingredients are organic and hand picked. Staff was excellent as well. Nice addition to the hood.

Buonissimo!
Luce has got to be the best Real Italian I have ever had in the USA. Real warm and comfortable place with very polite staff. My advice is if you want real italian food without the long trip to Italy, Luce will live up to your expectations! Buon Appetito!

Amazing
We were amazed by the food at Luce!! Everything was superbly seasoned (finally a restaurant that uses enough salt on the food) and truly delicious. The portions were more than abundant and our server was wonderful and very prompt, we couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. We've eaten at alot of top restaurants in the country and found this to be up there in the top five. It is worth every penny, we can't wait to go again!!

A Jewel Grows In Brooklyn
Luce is the best Italian west of Rome. The ambiance is no less than exceptional. This is a quaint romantic spot with dishes that are robust in flavor! Everything is exceptionally tasty from the salads and entrees to the dessert. Dining at Luce is something every New Yorker should experience.

Perfect Date Restaurant
When my date and I arrived, we were immediately greeted by the owner. Once we were seated, our service was attentive and considerate, without being omnipresent. I was very impressed with the service from the beginning to the end of our meal.

Mama-mia !
They recently offered venison as a 'special', although, having tasted it, I think it should have been billed a an 'extra-special'. Seems such a good kitchen can turn its hand to most anything.

Thank God
We are from Seattle, where food is good, but not Europeanly good. We had a wonderful, extended, leisurely visit at Luce eating and talking with p and p (see above) and with owners Peter and Kristin and Luce's mysteriously relaxed chef, the likeable Andrew - more like dinner in an preternaturally well-organized home than a restaurant meal. The room is beautiful, every detail thought through perfectly, warm and cozy and bright; the food is what you would get if you knew where to get it, only you didn't till now; the wines are grand, the wine steward knowledgeable and unsnotty. You will be inspired to order more than you can eat and then eat it anyway. Be sure to spend some time in one of the two deeply charming bathrooms, whether you need to or not.

Go while it's still easy to get reservations
Having dined at all the top 50 restaurants in the Zagat Guide I can say with confidence that Luce would be right at home on that list. Start with a spinach and fennel salad that tastes as fresh as if it were picked in the backyard. Conclude with the ricotta cheesecake with concord grape sauce and you'll discover the lightest cheesecake imaginable. With those two special treats as bookends, choose any entre to make your meal a success.

Perfect place to go
I live in the neighborhood and found that although there are a lot of restaurants in the area, it's difficult to find a great one...until Luce opened, where this spot has become one of my new favorites. The atmosphere is cozy, while the food and service is just as good as the place looks. For our appetizer, we ordered the calamare, and for the main course, we had the seafood couscous and the skate. This is the kind of food you would expect to find in a Manhattan restaurant. Everything was delicious! Another thing to expect is to be treated like family when you go to this hip, and unpretentious spot!

Many Happy Returns
We've dined at Luce on several occasions and often brought friends along. We are never disappointed. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxed, hip without the attitude. Service is friendly and efficient. The food is top quality, perfectly prepared. What could be better than fresh skate with perfectly cooked broad beans or chicken, roasted to order, with gnocchi to soak up the pomegranite sauce? Desserts are a knockout, too! The hosts presence makes for a warm and congineial atmosphere.
